Your opinion on Duolingo Stories
This discussion is open to anyone who wants to answer the question, "What is your opinion on Duolingo Stories?"
Do you like the stories? Is there something the Duolingo staff could do better? What other types of stories would you like to see implemented?
They are testing it out, and if they decide to keep it, I'm sure they'll add more languages.
Spanish is all I've tried, and only one story. It was quite enjoyable, and I hope that Duo goes into this in a big way and for more languages.
It would be REALLY nice if the story could be heard all the way through w/o being interrupted, to practice listening skills. Maybe that could be a reward for getting all the questions right.
Another incentive might be little "badges" for each story that has been successfully (all questions correct) read. They could be "pinned" to the owl's sash for the language, like scout merit badges. :)
I like the stories, but I don't like how they don't do it based on how far you are in that language. For instance, I'm learning spanish and I recently started so I'm not too far in it. I tried out the stories and the books were talking about things that I had never learned before. I tried it out and it was so challenging and I ended up hovering over every word so it would give the English meaning of it, and I got really frustrated and stopped doing it. It's good and all, but it could be better is all I'm saying. But of course, they're just trying it out I'm sure they'll make some changes later on :)
They are just fine to me I don't use them much but, they are a good idea for starters.
Up at the top of the page, there's a tab labelled 'Labs'. Go there, scroll down a bit, and you'll find 'stories'.
I'm only learning Irish and they don't have any of those stories. I'd love to try it but for the moment I can't.
