Praise for the writer of the tips to this program of study and why I chose Swedish to learn.
I just want to praise the person or persons who wrote the tips for this program of study. There is both a sense of humor as well as a sense of pride in their Swedish roots which I really appreciate.
I did not know which language to study of the three Scandinavian lands. I thought that I should perhaps take Norwegian--my best friend's mother is Norwegian and he lived there until he was five--and because it is supposedly close in pronunciation and in script to Danish, which is making fantastic television these days. I decided to choose Swedish, because I have visited it so often and because I had seen a Swedish movie in which a woman from the countryside sounded aghast that her friend was going to go to Stockholm. "i Stockholm?!" The drama and the feeling packed in that question was amazing to hear and I repeated it pretty well. So, with some misgivings at having to choose, I chose Swedish for its dramatic sound. I am not disappointed with the voice of the woman who presents the introductory sentences! Another "drama queen," and I mean that in a good sense.
Tack så mycket!
