腕時計 (うでどけい) - wristwatch
時計 (どけい) - watch
"This wristwatch is cute" should be accepted.
Agreed. This course mainly treats とけい as "clock", though.
That's exactly what I said and I got it wrong
The どけい is probably a work of 連濁 (れんだく)
Man. They really need a slowed-down audio option like they have for other languages.
Japanese is remarkably simple to pronounce/listen compared to most other languages.
couldn't agree more. I don't know how they expect people learning the language to listen that fast. I usually have to replay several times.
Japanese pronunciation never changes in hiragana and katakana cases (like the sentence above). Only kanji has different pronunciations.
It wouldn't accept kawaii!
translating 可愛い (かわいい) into kawaii is not really translating. even though it is now somehow a borrowed word in English, it is more likely used in the context of Japanese popular culture.
How can a watch be cute..?
Japanese's tasty thingy i guess
well maybe if it is a hello kitty watch
Never exactly seen 'cute' used for a wristwatch, especially the word 'kawaii'.
