Hi, how can I say the word "the shop" in Dutch. F.e. I need to go to shop. Is it handel or winkel? - Thats what I found in translator. What more accurate? Thanks, Marian.

A store or a shop is een winkel and to say that you need to go to the store is said as Ik moet naar de winkel, or to say that you need to go shopping is Ik moet gaan winkelen. Handel is not generally used for a regular store or shop. I think Dutch youth nowadays probably use the word shoppen (derived from English, of course) instead of winkelen if they are going out to buy clothes or something. Oh, some stores are also referred to as een zaak, for example een kledingzaak which is a clothing store. And a grocery store or a supermarket is een supermarkt. I hope this information helps a bit.

I red the following in a Dutch book, "Boodschappen doen". That's so funny, it makes me think of delivering messages or something. I also read about Dutch insults in a book called Nieuwe Handen. Like "rot op", I guess it means decompose? Is the saying "Jij hebt een klap van de windmool weg." still used. Is it windmool or windmolen, revering to one windmill? It's weird Google translate shows windpomp for windmill. To my understanding a windmill is used to make flour from grain and a windpomp pumps water from the ground. You can also live in a windmill but not in a windpomp.

Yes, boodschappen doen is still a common expression for doing your grocery shopping. As for rot op that's Dutch slang for get the h... out of here. I think the saying you're referring to is this one: http://www.woorden.org/spreekwoord.php?woord=klap%20van%20de%20molen. In Dutch, it's molen for singular and molens for plural. Een windmolen nowadays is one of those big white machines for generating wind power, but the old-timey mills used for grinding grain are still in operation, most famously in a place called Kinderdijk: https://www.kinderdijk.com. Here's the part about windmills and windpumps: https://www.kinderdijk.com/discover/the-story/windmills-pumps.

Zeer bedankt! U bent een schatkist van nuttige inlichting. Ik moet de hele tijd onthouden om ij te gebruiken en niet y. De landschappen van de rivieren en Windmolens laat mij amper in tranen, prachtig! Ja de grote witte masjiene is ook in sekere delen van Zuid Afrika. Hier is een link van wat ik bedoelt met een windpomp. https://af.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windpomp

Een staal toring met wieken. So by the way a menu is een spyskaart in Afrikaans. Hoop mijn Nederlands zal verbeteren oor zo paar maanden.

Wens u een geweldige week toe.

It's "winkel" e.g. "Ik heb haast, want ik moet nog even snel naar de winkel!", "In welke winkel heb je dat gekocht?"

I know you've been answered, but if you do want to use handel, I think it's more for trading. If you sell on the handel you sell on the stock market I think

You can get "Dutch shopping Words" on the Memrise website, however you have to type in just "Dutch" and then scroll down till you get it. It's a two hour course on average, so you'll shop till you drop.
