Pronounce the "t" in "est"
So in some of the basic listening exercises it says "La fille est un enfant." Because, I did not hear the liaison from "est" to "un," I thought it was saying "La fille et un enfant." But, I was wrong. Shouldn't the system pronounce the "t" when it is followed by a vowel?
I remember my teacher telling me ages ago that some (though not many) French people don't liaise, even if the next word begins with a vowel. In France this is just seen as having a 'posh' accent.
It can be confusing to listen to, but obviously in normal conversation, when you have context, you would understand that it's an 'est' rather than 'et'.
Despite this, I'd guess that Duolingo made an error by not pronouncing the 't' there :/
I've seen discussions about the voice incorrectly pronouncing the s in "est" so I know it is not accurate.
Thanks everyone. I thought it was just me but I have been noticing that the female voice does not pronounce the liaison in "est." MarcD50, if the male would have said that sentence I would have gotten it right! haha
