Hurrah, finally finished French tree!
It is taken me a LONG time (babies and kids, so very little study time) but finally finished. Now to actually get CONFIDENT with using the grammar! I live in France so lots of opportunities to practice but this has been a great help, and I'm not done yet. Will strengthen my French and get going with the other languages I want to learn. Merci, Duolingo!
That's great! Well done! I'm learing French but I have 2 skills left until the second checkpoint so I still have a long way to go until I get to where you are! :) I am struggling to have time to learn NEW skills though as every day I get at least 4 new skills that are 'weak'. Once again, well done! Good luck with your other languages too! :)
I have found that if I click on strengthen skills, everyday and do not use the speedy answers. my gold stays and I am advancing keeping all gold. but you have to do this everyday. I do fifty xp and more if I can. just keep up with it and you will advance, don't try to go like a bull at a gate like I did. and charge ahead. just plod along, take your time, and it is amazing how the tree starts to get smaller. still going myself. don't even know where the end is. good luck to you. I have learned heaps. but I really do need to find someone to practice with. or do a class again.
Thanks but I haven't actually been racing ahead. Everday I have been trying to get it all to gold so that I can move on a bit and today is the first time in about two or three weeks that I have had them all at gold and been able to start a new skill. I have no idea why they decrease so fast as I remember most of it. :/ Either way, thanks again and good luck to you too! :)
P.S. My goal everyday is 30XP so I don't do as much as you but sometimes if I have the time I do A LOT more! :)
I found initially concentrating making all gold was impossible. they kept diminishing at an alarming rate, and I just gave up for a while. it was so demoralising. i tried all kinds of ways to achieve the gold. but then i decided i would do the new skills gold or no. cos i was getting soooooooooo bored with repeating what i totally knew already. then i read someones suggestion and i followed it. i do not use the fast mode now, cos as i made mistakes i would go backwards rapidly with the gold rewards. now i just use the normal speed and do my xp everyday using the strengthen blue tab. i just click on there and go for it. until i have done my xp or more. (i started at 30 too} i upped it to 50 to make myself work harder. xp isn't important in the end. so good on you. i also keep my miss a day pay ten xp up too. so that helps. sorry for the waffle but i took months to figure it out and it frustrated me no end. i wish i had have known what to do early on.
Hi, I'm having the exact same problem and it's really frustrating. I was wondering what you mean by fast mode? Is this something only available on the app or can it be accessed on the desktop site? I'm getting bored of playing never-ending whack-a-mole with the golds
Same here. It seems to decay faster than I can keep up. I literally usually spend 75-100% of my time on Duolingo everyday re-strengthening skills. I'm about 70% through the entire tree right now. I've been at it for a little more than 2 solid months now.
I do at the MINIMUM 50xp per day (which duolingo counts as "insane" lol??"). Sometimes i get up to 100xp per day and occasionally 150+. I take it very seriously, not zooming through the tree, not cheating, and always looking at the discussions when I make an error.
There was a point when i was doing 100+ xp per day for over a week and i finally managed to keep everything gold. But that immediately fell apart when I dropped to 60xp per day after I got a little busy. Over the last week, i've been very busy and again I've done 'only' 60-70xp per day. And now I still have SEVENTEEN modules that have lost their gold strength. (it was at 23 but i re-golded 6 of them today. See how slightly saddening it is?).
I don't understand how people with all or most of their tree complete manage to maintain their trees to full gold
D'accord!
so have I. What's the next step? I now need some more advanced grammar. Does it do that?
I'm not sure but I'm going to keep going back and re-doing all the tense activities as I still struggle with some of these despite living in France for 5 years now (blush). That's mainly because I stay at home with my little kids instead of getting out and meeting lots of people - people who work or study in France usually pick it up WAY QUICKER! I need to do more translations and text my French friends more to practice writing as since French suffixes often are not pronounced, I can get away with SOUNDING as if I am using tenses properly when I talk even if I have to think a lot when I spell them. I have some French textbooks that I can use if I find the time. I love the pages with all the grammar charts to help me.
I would say already A2 level, possibly B1 as I actually live in France now and did an A2 course at university here. That was over 4 years ago and I did not study afterwards for a long time. My husband is French but we talk in English - both because his English is way better than my French and so our kids can be bilingual. But as a stay at home mum I don't get to practice and improve my French enough so Duolingo has been great practice and helped my grammar - but still have a long way to go with that!
ok i think myself that it is possibly a good idea to spend part of each evening or day? speaking French in the home. cos you are important too. your French will improve enormously if your hubby is considerate of your language difficulties. lack of language can be crippling. you have little access out of the home to this support. I would expect it. yep I would. cos his English is being supported by you. off my soap box.
