Lost my 293 Day Streak, but had Streak Freeze

I have been practicing German on Duolingo every day for 293 days. I actually won a prize to go to Germany because of my scores on a German exam. The other day, I thought I lost my streak, but then my sister in the US was able to complete practice for me, recovering it. I made sure I had a steak freeze purchased after that. Then, I got back to my hotel room last night at close to midnight. After I got ready for bed, it was past midnight, but I figured it would be ok because of Streak freeze. At first, it showed my Streak in gray, (meaning that I hadn't practiced yet). After I practiced, it switched to 1. I don't know what happened, but please help, that streak meant a lot to me!

You also have to remember that your streak and the streak freeze only take account of your home time, not local time. I don't know your local time but say it was New York time, this is six hours behind German time, so when in Germany you would need to service your streak before 6 am German time, (mid night New York local time). So you need to be sure of the exact times you and your sister practice. If you use Duolingo one day before 6 am German time and the next time you practice is the following day after 6 am you lose your streak freeze. The next time this sequence occurs you lose your streak. If it was California time at 9 hours behind Germany substitute 9.00 am for 6 am!

My sympathies to you! I once lost a streak close to what you had. Perhaps submitting a bug report would help: https://support.duolingo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Why would one want to care about streak days? Lingots? I don't see the point!
