Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Songs

Music is a great way to learn. I would like to suggest that songs be added to learn and translate as part of Duolingo.

Hi Misseire,

It is against Immersion's upload policy to upload any copyrighted material without the express permission of the owner. Most song's are copyrighted unless the copyright holders give permission to allow their songs to be translated in Immersion. Some music has been released into Creative Commons license, but most have not. So, if you are going to upload material into Immersion, please make sure that it doesn't violate Duolingo's Terms of service: www.duolingo.com/terms

Thank you! ^_^

What about uploading lyrics of songs, with a link to a YouTube video of a performance of the song? I know Spanish lyrics are freely available online, and I have a few favorite songs I'd like to upload - mostly to introduce others to the great songs - but I was not sure about the legality of uploading lyrics.

Finding lyrics posted elsewhere online is not a good way to determine if they are legal or not. The best way is to establish for sure whether or not the song has been released into the appropriate Creative Commons liscence. Unfrotunately, I don't fully understand that process (Dessamator might.) So, I personally just stay away from uploading anything but wikipedia and things I've written myself.

That was pretty much my take on it as well, Usagiboy7. Just because something is on the Internet does not mean it has been legally released into the wild. Thanks for your comment
