You can type Japanese with English keyboard

Hiragana is printed on the keyboard in Japan. However, many Japanese do not use hiragana type. Many Japanese people use the alphabet to enter in romaji type. With your English keyboard, you can show hiragana, katakana and kanji. Please look at the following.

Thanks, those were great simple tutorials!

For iPhone, I believe the Japanese keyboard is built-in.

For Android, I recommend the Google Japanese keyboard which is available in the Google Play.

Yes, but how to type the English translations without having to keep switching back and forth?

In PC if you press Alt+`(top left, left of 1), it will toggle English and Japanese input mode.

With mobile there should be a toggle button with the keyboard, normally at the lower left.

On Windows 10, it's Windows Key + Space to switch between languages

On Windows 10 Win+space changes input languages, but within the Japanese input itself Alt-` will switch between typing hiragana and roman letters. So you don't have to leave Japanese to get the correct characters for English
