Tables in Duolingo Markdown?

  • 1582

Is it possible to construct tables using Duolingo Markdown? I see that some flavours of Markdown support this, but not, at least when I tested it, in Duolingo discussions. Some variants also allow embedding of HTML fragments (which I'd be happy to use), but again Duolingo doesn't appear to support this.

I have always assumed the course creators use Markdown to create the Notes and Tips, and tables appears frequently. Can this be utilised within Discussion posts?

You can use GitHub-flavored Markdown table syntax for constructing tables here.

Recently I constructed this experimental Polish Declension Table using DML (Duo Markdown Language):

To do so I made extensive use of daKanga's highly pragmatic [GUIDE] Formatting in Duolingo - a practical and interactive demonstration of exactly which Markdown subset (+ some undocumented extras, esp. from testmoogle) currently works in Duo, kept up to date by its users. DML has changed over the past 4 years or so, and will likely do so again after some future Forum software update...

For the underlying code and other details, see the top 2 - 3 screens of my reply (otherwise still under construction, as and when I find the time...) in daKanga's Guide.

It's the markup language used to be able to put text in bold, italics, to highlight etc.

Ok. I don't think so.

I suspect you are correct, but I thought I'd try asking, just in case. :-)

No, Markdown doesn't support tables.

I feared not. Pity. I wanted to create a clearly laid out table of Japanese characters, the best I could was to use spaces, which of course get shrunk when converted to HTML. Raw HTML is not permitted, so I couldn't even use non-breaking spaces.

Yes, it does. Markdown does support tables. Another thing is if Duolingo supports it or not.

GitHub Markdown Cheatsheet:
...Tables aren't part of the core Markdown spec, but they are part of GFM...
