Why are you learning High Valyrian?

I'm interested in why people are learning High Valyrian. Personally I'm learning it because I'm interested in languages and I want to learn every language available on Duolingo so that's pretty much why haha. What about you?

I've never watched an episode of GOT but the language seems alright and I like having a little dragon by my name. Also the course is short so it's an easy finish.

I actually gave Welsh a try and got to around the first checkpoint but dropped it in my cleanup, I may give it a go again soon because I know I can get past the first chunk easily.

You're pretty much learning it for the same reason as I am, then! Also, I want to listen for words and phrases I might recognise in the coming episodes.

I recently got into Game of Thrones, and High Valyrian sounds super cool when Khaleesi & Co. are speaking it. It would also be pretty awesome to be able to understand some of what they're saying without subtitles too, so I'm going to take the course. Not right now though, since it doesn't have audio and I want to make serious inroads into finishing my German tree first, but I definitely will in the future.

EDIT: Also, is there anyone else who's just a little excited to set up High Valyrian clubs on the app called "House Targaryen", "House Stark", etc etc?

I'm a conlanger on the lookout for inspiration. After a while of looking at natural languages, I wanted to see how other conlangs were put together. Esperanto is a bit simplistic, but High Valyrian is a little meatier, a little more naturalisitc.

Because I like the sound of that artificial language. Some twenty years ago I had learned Klingon, so why not learning Valyrian, now?

Because I lov GOT and High Valyrian sounds interesting and I am open to learning new things. I started today, but I am passionate already. The words are fast to learn and their creative sounds make them easier to remember.

I recently saw the first six seasons of GoT and I was impressed. The problem was, that the High Valyrian passages were not translated, there were no subtitles, so the scenes were nearly useless for me, I was very annoyed.

But I like languages and it would be nice to see, if this Duolingo course can help me to understand, what they say. But I would need audio, because I do not know, how to pronounce the words and sentences.

You don't need subtitles... Just keep in mind that if Dany says "Dracarys" you are well advised to run.

The same reason I've done all the available Esperanto trees... Merely because it's available on duo and I've pledged to myself to do all the trees I possibly can while waiting for Finnish to finally get the go ahead.
I have not much interest whatsoever in conlangs (at least until I've sampled quite a few more real languages), games of thrones, battlestartrekgalacticas or telletubbies... but that's just me being a grumpy old donkey :-p
