"Der Einwohner" is accepted as "the citizen". Why is it then that "die Einwohner" (plural form) is not accepted as "the citizens"?
P.S. I am not complaining, I would just like to know the explanation...
Die Bürger von Hamburg(er)
Can any one explain why " der Landsmann" is not accepted?
= compatriot / fellow countryman
Is 'Bürger' a common word in Germany? I'm English and 'citizen' is not a word I use very often at all. It seems a bit of a strange word to be learning at this stage.
