I understand that the use of the term ข้าว equates more specifically to "rice", yet also loosely equates to "food", since rice is such a common staple in thai meals. I see this in common expressions such as กินข้าวหรือยัง (have you eaten (rice) yet?)
However, I'm less convinced that the term อาหาร can be used in the same interchangeable manner, as I felt it is more equivalent to the word "food", and not a specific type of food such as rice.
