Russian Pictography

I have been using this for a while, but i haven't been on here for a few months due to work.

However when i have returned now, instead of showing english characters for russian words, so i can actually learn, they are showing Russian Pictography, which means i don't even know what words i am trying to translate half the time.

Is there any way i can change this back to english characters?

AFAIK, Russian does not use pictography. It uses the Cyrilic alphabet and Duo decicided that it was important for learners of Russian to learn the correct alphabet. There are lots of resources on youtube and elsewhere that teach the Cyrilic alphabet and how the letters are the pronnunciation.

thanks for the explanation, never knew the actual term so called it pictography.. so basically DuoLingo no longer provide the English Character versions of russian words? i understand it's important to learn the correct alphabet, however i am still a beginner and i am unable to read the Cyrilic alphabet...

I would check out YouTube and other resources and learn the alphabet before starting Duo. Like when you first learned English, you start reciting and recognising each letter before you learned vocabulary ang grammar.

What psionpete said.

Also, the beginning of the course does focus on those letters in the Cyrillic alphabet which are different from the ones in the Latin alphabet that we write English with (it's only some of them, after all). So if you go through the first skills thoroughly, you will learn the alphabet there as well, although looking it up elsewhere online first is also not a bad idea.

well i have already gone through the first few courses... am on phrases at the moment... so i don't really like to back track if i can, i prefer to just keep pushing forward.. i'll probably just learn as i go, that's how i usually do things... but thanks for the advice
