I entered: "the boy finds the owls and the girl finds the the falcons" and it marked it wrong, stating that I used the wrong word. Not sure what the difference is here...

Your translation is fine.

Duolingo develops its correct sentence database during a beta release of the course, which is where High Valyrian is now. Users can report "My translation should have been accepted" and the volunteer course contributors can choose to accept these as alternative translations.
