1 Month French Challenge! All learners Welcome!

Bonjour, tout le monde! I'm sure this has been done before, but I haven't seen it, so here we are. :) To help myself improve my French fluency, I have set a goal that I would like to reach in one month, and I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to join me! (By the way, I am officially starting this challenge on July 21, 2017.) Having other people involved us all to stay motivated! So, here's how it will (hopefully) work: If you want to join, respond to this thread and set a goal for yourself. For example, my goal is to reach a level of reasonable fluency — about a level C1 on the CEFR scale. But, if you're a beginner in French, you might want to set a different goal. That's fine! It can be whatever sort of goal you'd like. It doesn't even have to be as structured as mine. However, I would encourage you to make sure it's something that challenges you a little; not too hard, but not something easy either. Just let us know what you're aiming for. Once you've done that, you can join the 1 Month French Challenge Group (on the mobile app)! Of course, it's not required! Only if you would like to. The code is Y53D7N. Duolingo is awesome, but obviously we need to learn from sources outside Duolingo, as well. So, below I'll be posting links to resources that I've found useful, and I would love it if you guys did the same. We can also use this discussion thread as a way to keep up with one other's progress and answer questions, etc. Then, in a month, we'll talk about how we did! Just in case you didn't read it before:

I am officially starting this challenge on July 21, 2017. That will be the last day for anyone to join.

If you read the whole thing, THANK YOU! I imagine that wasn't the most organized thing you've ever read, but hopefully it came through clearly. If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to drop a comment!

Merci pour votre temps — Anna :)

*RESOURCES ::::Here I will be sharing everything I've found helpful. I will update it as I learn more! _ *Beelinguapp — This app has short stories with English and French (and other language) translations side by side. It also has audio available, so that you can hear the French being spoken as well as read it! Some of the books cost money, but they have some nice ones for free, also. _ french.kwiziq.com — this website allows you to take French tests, then recommends topics for you to study based on your score. Lots of useful information! _ *Memrise — This website/app is pretty well known, but I thought I would included it on the list just in case. It is a great resource if you're trying to work on vocabulary! _ Easy Languages (Youtube channel http://ow.ly/GDL130e08Fh) — A great youtube channel, with TONS of French dialog videos! It's really great because they include French + English subtitles, and they have a lot of other languages, too!

I'll get it started! Even though I included my goal in the above posting, I will reiterate it here: My goal is to reach a level of reasonable fluency — around a level C1 on the CEFR scale.

I just got to level 8 a couple of minutes ago. What do you think a reasonable level goal would be?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Well, depending on how much time you have and how quickly you gain XP, I would say that to go for level 10 would be a good starting goal. Of course, it's entirely up to you and your schedule. If you have a lot of time, you may even choose to try for level 11 or higher! :)

My goal is level 10 btw

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/pollyperki

Please clarify: what is C1 on CEFR scale.I have no reliable mobile in this contest. Can I share with my laptop?

I would love to join! I've always loved Duolingo but I kind of left it alone for a bit due to many mental health issues and school problems and I am happy to finally be back! I think this will really help me. I'm gonna give myself a pretty small, attainable goal to start getting back on track with language learning so my goal would be: reach level 12 for French here on Duolingo!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Awesome! Glad to hear it.

You challenge is interesting and think it is great to set a goal and go for it. I cannot participate in French, but maybe I will do something in German. Just curious, what is your current CERF level?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

The last time I took a placement test, I was B2. I'm not sure how accurate the test was or if I'll be able to progress so quickly, but I'm going to give it all my effort, and hopefully learn a lot! :D

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Lorel90

That's great!!! Good luck.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/cutehamstergirl

What's a CERF test? Can I take it in languages other than French?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/leefeli21

1004 day streak, holy crap well done

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/leefeli21

I can't even keep a streak for 7 days

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Lorel90

I take it one day at the time. The streak becomes the ring of power after a while.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/pollyperki

I admire you Lorel190.Please,tell us something about your experience with languages.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Lorel90

Thanks. The reason I kept the streak is that I made it habit to practice Duolingo always at the same time, so I turn on my laptop and among the first things I do is Duolingo. After a while it becomes a habit. In my experience Duolingo is a great first step to learn a language, but you need more resources. Try to find good youtubers, a grammar book, Memrise and have fun, lots of fun.

It is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to become a C1 speaker using only Duolingo.

I will join this challenge. My goal is to have the French tree finished by the start of this challenge, the 21st, and have the tree 100% gold on at least 10 of the 30 days this challenge lasts for.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Thanks for joining! You are correct. I intend to be using other resources along with Duolingo.

I am going to join! My goal is quite simple, to get to the 3rd checkpoint and be confident in everything prior to it. Right now I feel as I've done a lot of lessons, but aren't fully happy with them. Hopefully this'll change!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

The challenge starts today! Wohoo! Quick note — I was checking the club members and we have quite a few who have not responded to this thread at all. Because of this, if you have joined the club without posting a goal, you will be removed from the club.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/SamoolTheSamosa

What's the club code

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Hey everyone!! How did it go? I hope you achieved your goal, and more. :) Unfortunately, the past month was busier than I could have imagined, and events beyond my control slowed me down significantly, and I lost motivation. So, I did not reach the goal I was aiming for, but I feel that I have advanced much more than I would have without this challenge! I learned a lot and am excited to continue learning. :)

I would like to join. My son is taking high school French and wants to practice on me. I think this might get me going especially if there are others to work with!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Great! Do you have a certain goal you would like to reach?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/SKB1sh0p

I am hoping to make it to the second checkpoint. I am not familiar with the CERT testing mentioned in other posts.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Ilmarien

What types of things are you planning on doing? I'd be interested, since I'm heading to France in 6 weeks and I'd like to be reasonably close to a B2 in all four skills when I get there.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

I plan to be studying grammar, combined with video lessons and audiobooks, trying to gain an immersive experience. :)

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/rayearthen

ill try one. right now im stuck trying to put the rules for Possession, Demonst 1, and Present 1. in my head (ce, cette, ces/ sa, ta, ma, mon, mes, toi, so on/ and memorizing the differences between vouloir, pouvoir, devoir and their conjugations.)

for me, this is my plate definitely full.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Zeinnaab

Nice! I just joined :)

I'm kinda a beginner so I'm hoping to get at least in the B section on the CEFR scale. Little challenging, but I hope to make through it.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Thanks for joining! That's a great goal.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/pollyperki

My mobile is samsung. Can it help for that purpose?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/RogerMenge

J'aurais volontiers participé à ce challenge, mais je vais partir en vacances et mon activité, de ce fait, sera réduite. Une prochaine fois, peut-être...

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Ah, désolée...Mais, merci pour votre intérêt!

I'll try to be able to communicate with my friend in Paris without switching to English, or at least not as often. :)

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

That's a great goal.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Duol-Inger

Duolingo is really awesome!! Thank you for the invitation to the challenge. My goal will be to make one of the skills golden (after the last check Point) every day. Now I have 8587 xp's. I am curious to see how many I will have after finishing the challenge? Good luck to you all! I will follow this discussion thread, not the app, hope that's ok!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Duol-Inger

I made it!! I have soooo many golden coins now and have leveled up from 15 to 17. I earned 2585 in 30 days...so now I have 11172 xps! Thank you AnnaLiseCompass for the challenge!! I had a lot of fun along the way. /Duol-inger

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/OsamaNabih1

My goal is to be B1 on the CEFR scale, but I believe I still have a long way ahead of me.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

That's okay! It's still great to have a goal.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/klraikes

I just joined! I completed the French tree yesterday, but I am always looking to practice. My goal is to become more fluent, although I'm not sure what I would be on the CEFR scale.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Thanks for joining!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/klraikes

Je vous en prie :) Would it be okay if I did French > English? I've heard trying it in reverse can help reinforce some things. Would those points count towards the weekly leaderboards? Or do the French course points only count?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/annaattagirl

Unfortunately, I don't think that those points count toward the leaderboard. :/ But, if that's what you'd like to do, I'd say go for it! I've heard that it can be really helpful.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/CelesteWel

I am hoping for a minimum of level 5 but would be happy with higher.
