1 Month French Challenge! All learners Welcome!
Bonjour, tout le monde! I'm sure this has been done before, but I haven't seen it, so here we are. :) To help myself improve my French fluency, I have set a goal that I would like to reach in one month, and I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to join me! (By the way, I am officially starting this challenge on July 21, 2017.) Having other people involved us all to stay motivated! So, here's how it will (hopefully) work: If you want to join, respond to this thread and set a goal for yourself. For example, my goal is to reach a level of reasonable fluency — about a level C1 on the CEFR scale. But, if you're a beginner in French, you might want to set a different goal. That's fine! It can be whatever sort of goal you'd like. It doesn't even have to be as structured as mine. However, I would encourage you to make sure it's something that challenges you a little; not too hard, but not something easy either. Just let us know what you're aiming for. Once you've done that, you can join the 1 Month French Challenge Group (on the mobile app)! Of course, it's not required! Only if you would like to. The code is Y53D7N. Duolingo is awesome, but obviously we need to learn from sources outside Duolingo, as well. So, below I'll be posting links to resources that I've found useful, and I would love it if you guys did the same. We can also use this discussion thread as a way to keep up with one other's progress and answer questions, etc. Then, in a month, we'll talk about how we did! Just in case you didn't read it before:
I am officially starting this challenge on July 21, 2017. That will be the last day for anyone to join.
If you read the whole thing, THANK YOU! I imagine that wasn't the most organized thing you've ever read, but hopefully it came through clearly. If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to drop a comment!
Merci pour votre temps — Anna :)
*RESOURCES ::::Here I will be sharing everything I've found helpful. I will update it as I learn more! _ *Beelinguapp — This app has short stories with English and French (and other language) translations side by side. It also has audio available, so that you can hear the French being spoken as well as read it! Some of the books cost money, but they have some nice ones for free, also. _ french.kwiziq.com — this website allows you to take French tests, then recommends topics for you to study based on your score. Lots of useful information! _ *Memrise — This website/app is pretty well known, but I thought I would included it on the list just in case. It is a great resource if you're trying to work on vocabulary! _ Easy Languages (Youtube channel http://ow.ly/GDL130e08Fh) — A great youtube channel, with TONS of French dialog videos! It's really great because they include French + English subtitles, and they have a lot of other languages, too!
I would love to join! I've always loved Duolingo but I kind of left it alone for a bit due to many mental health issues and school problems and I am happy to finally be back! I think this will really help me. I'm gonna give myself a pretty small, attainable goal to start getting back on track with language learning so my goal would be: reach level 12 for French here on Duolingo!
Thanks. The reason I kept the streak is that I made it habit to practice Duolingo always at the same time, so I turn on my laptop and among the first things I do is Duolingo. After a while it becomes a habit. In my experience Duolingo is a great first step to learn a language, but you need more resources. Try to find good youtubers, a grammar book, Memrise and have fun, lots of fun.
It is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to become a C1 speaker using only Duolingo.
I will join this challenge. My goal is to have the French tree finished by the start of this challenge, the 21st, and have the tree 100% gold on at least 10 of the 30 days this challenge lasts for.
Hey everyone!! How did it go? I hope you achieved your goal, and more. :) Unfortunately, the past month was busier than I could have imagined, and events beyond my control slowed me down significantly, and I lost motivation. So, I did not reach the goal I was aiming for, but I feel that I have advanced much more than I would have without this challenge! I learned a lot and am excited to continue learning. :)
ill try one. right now im stuck trying to put the rules for Possession, Demonst 1, and Present 1. in my head (ce, cette, ces/ sa, ta, ma, mon, mes, toi, so on/ and memorizing the differences between vouloir, pouvoir, devoir and their conjugations.)
for me, this is my plate definitely full.
Duolingo is really awesome!! Thank you for the invitation to the challenge. My goal will be to make one of the skills golden (after the last check Point) every day. Now I have 8587 xp's. I am curious to see how many I will have after finishing the challenge? Good luck to you all! I will follow this discussion thread, not the app, hope that's ok!
