In the official announcement, Luis said

We simply don’t have the resources required to develop or maintain Immersion in a satisfactory way.

There's also the factor that the EU had a problem with it in some way, because there was free unpaid labor to translate things (I don't know specifics). Another argument is not many users used Immersion (I believe the figure was 1.something %)

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the labor laws and the EU and all that. Great memory!

They covered that in the announcement about six months ago. It took a ton of resources to support it, and while the folks who used it liked it a lot, it was only used by a very small percentage of the entire user base. They couldn't justify devoting such a large percentage of staff to supporting such a tiny portion of the user base.

But, really, be forewarned: it might take a while for it to load (there are over a thousand comments on the discussion thread).
