How can one know if "the" qualify the girl or the horse ? Would it be correct to translate it either with "pigens hest" or "piges hesten" ?

Pigens hest → The girl's horse

Piges hesten → Girl's the horse (I think it would be safe to say it wouldn't be this one, ever)

The definitive belongs to the owner of the object.
