Let's Be Honest: Extra Skills

While Flirting and Figurative Speech are nice, I think it would be better if we had, maybe, legends or other things about the culture. But if no one except me thinks this is a good idea, I guess we'll have to do with Figurative Flirting. But hopefully not, so what do you think? I'd love to hear your input. Talk to you soon for more.

I think we they should add a "slang" skill to the tree. Doesn't need to be an "extra skill". The trees are updated regularly, so we're probably going to have a slang skill.

Very true. I'm sure that languages don't just speak in prim, proper dialect.

Yes! There's a lot more to a language than flirting and fig. speech, and these features should be added. I suggest that learners across languages create online forums (like a skype group or a facebook page) where everyone can contribute something. Maybe we can get Duolingo to add these things to the tree?

I absolutely agree and hope so. There's so much to learn about languages, and Duolingo seems to have just scraped the tip of the iceberg. And I think that the forums sound ingenious. May I suggest asking Duolingo to start forums?

And I want one showing the differences of Spanish as spoken in Spain and in Latin America. Yes-yes-yes, I know people will understand but there are still differences and things you really should be aware of.

Very true. As you've just mentioned, languages ,like Spanish, are different depending on where they're spoken. It all depends on when it's spoken, where it's spoken, and what is spoken. Also, I'm sure cultures have different ways of pronouncing and saying these things.

It would be awesome. Or what about a slang course?

I agree, it would be great to have from time to time an extra skill to add to the tree, to have always something new to learn! And yes, "flirting" might be rather catchy as a topic, but there could be so many others!

Thank you for agreeing! I honestly think that, with help from suggestions, that things like slang and adjusted language mechanics, would help enrich your knowledge of the language you're learning.

I agree with you and think that your idea would help the Duolingo community learn more about the languages they learn.

¿Por que tu hablo "let's be honest" en el título de sus discusiones?

I say "Let's Be Honest" because it kind of means I'm going to talk honestly about the topic, then speak of ways to improve it.
