Language Exchange: Sign Languages?
Hi! I am a deaf user here on Duo and I really enjoy learning through here. On here and other sites I have noticed that people often do language exchanges -- teach each other languages they each know. I have some hearing ability but generally have avoided doing that because of my deafness.
However, I would love to do this with other deaf people, with sign language. Would people be interested in setting up language exchanges between deaf people/signers to teach each other our sign languages? I know American Sign Language (ASL) and would love to learn more about other sign languages.
Or -- if there are any such groups that I missed, let me know!
Good timing for this! A couple of us are trying to jumpstart a facebook group called duolingo asl. I'm planning to make an announcement post about it in August. But, if you do a search on fb, it should come up now. :)
I'm hearing, but I'm learning ASL and a bit of BSL, and although I don't know for sure if I would be able to participate, I think it would be so cool to set up an exchange.
Both? Wow. Ive been avoiding learning sogns from anything but ASL and loan signs used by ASL signers. I'm too worried i'd mix things up.
Emphasis on a bit. I know the alphabet and I'm doing some basic signs, but I'm not learning it FULL ON. :P (plus, I'm learning Russian and Ukrainian together, I have plenty of practice!)
