Golden Tree - Thanks Duolingo
After about 5 months (current 126 day streak), I have finally made the Italian tree golden and received my Golden Owl. I took my time and continue to do and redo the verb sections since the only thing that helps is repetition. I try to do about 150 points a day and still am only on Level 23. So, I'm going to go for Level 25 before backing off and doing the reverse tree.
I also use Memrise (which as a fun fact, Level 5 Memrise Italian only has about 65 people on it per week). Along with Coffee Break Italian as a podcast, News in Slow Italian for new content, and some Youtube videos. I have an old book of stories called "L'Italia Racconta" that I am going to start reading again to see how well I do. I spend 1 to 1.5 hours a day on Italian (I have a 1 hour commute both ways on public transit, so plenty of time to learn!)
I plan on retiring in Italy in about 10 years time, so I will be starting to take trips there next year to determine the best location. My Italian had slipped quite a bit since college, so I needed to get serious about it.
I want to thank everyone at Duolingo as well as the vibrant discussion board. I have received so much help and ideas from this platform that it is amazing. I tell everyone about Duolingo and how great it has been, as long as you are willing to put in the effort.
An interesting positive comment. I wish you every success and happy times in Italy. I am not able to live there so go to school in Venice or Lucca as compensation. Wonderful country, warm friendly people. Tanti auguri a te. L.
It's such a good thing to hear that someone has a good experience with Duolingo, actually I am the one too, ..All the best and good time in Italy!
I have read that there are some small Tuscan towns that are losing population and are trying to attract inhabitants by offering a cash incentive and very low rents. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2017/05/10/italian-village-offering-2175-cash-and-50-rents-if-you-move-there/101504418/
