Zij vs Zij? Them or Her?

Which one would it be? How do you know when to use them versus when to use her on a translation. It is the same word, so I don't know how to make the distinction. Thanks!

For verbs if it ends in -en it means 'they', if it ends in -t it means 'she'

  • Zij spelen - They play
  • Zij speelt - She plays

Zij typically does not mean 'them' (it never means 'her'), although you can use it to mean the direct object 'them' http://www.dutchgrammar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5091

Ja ik vergeten dat ook heel veel. In het Afrikaans gebruiken wij net "hulle speel" en "sy speel". Een eenvoudiger taal.
