Scorpions, spiders and centipedes are not insects. And that picture doesn't show a soup spoon.

Also, a sphere is not a geometric solid, it is a two-dimensional surface; the corresponding solid is a ball.
I'm not even going to say anything about berries...

A sphere IS a geometric solid - A ball is a spherical object. A circle is two dimensional.

No, not if one is being precise. A ball is the three-dimensional space that is bounded by a sphere. As a sphere is a closed surface (and not a solid), one can only travel in two dimensions on it (a two-dimensional stick man walking in a straight line on a sphere would notice the curious fact that he ends up where he started after a certain distance, but would be completely unaware of any curvature), whereas one can travel in three dimensions within a ball.

That is only in Mathematics.

In general, everyday use, a sphere is a 3D object.

A ball is a sphere An orange is a sphere A planet is a sphere The Deathstar is a sphere

Best for beginning English users to learn the common use of the word to start and later worry about technical definitions if they need to; otherwise they might get the idea that the English world still thinks the earth is flat.

There is nothing that is not governed by mathematics! But I was really more concerned with the spider/insect business. My complaints about spheres and berries were pedantic afterthoughts.

I think that for the language learning purpose the sphere part is more important. It doesn't really matter much whether the spider is in the insect category or not because learners already know (or don't) that spider is not an insect, they just call it a different name in their language. All that is important to them is that this creacher they see on the picture is called "spider" in English.

As for the sphere, you can't tell from the picture whether this object is meant to be solid or hollow, so yeah, putting it in the solid category is a bit misleading.

For me and many others, people learn much easier with visuals because you connect it to something you recognize :) Nice.
