Whoop! Whoop! Finally completed the Norwegian tree! (Now to keep it gilded and continue learning!) A HUGE thank you to the Norwegian team for all your hard work, your help and all the answers you provided to my numerous questions! :-)

Hurra for deg

Hurra for deg som fyller ditt år!
Ja, deg vil vi gratulere!
Alle i ring omkring deg vi står,
og se, nå vil vi marsjere.
Bukke, nikke, neie, snu oss omkring,
danse for deg med hopp og sprett og spring.
Ønske deg av hjerte alle gode ting!
Og si meg så, hva vil du mere?

Gratulere!

Høyt våre flagg vi svinger. Hurra!
Ja, nå vil vi riktig feste!
Dagen er din, og dagen er bra,
men du er den aller beste!
Se deg om i ringen, hvem du vil ta!
Dans en liten dans med den du helst vil ha!
Vi vil alle sammen svinge oss så glad:
En av oss skal bli den neste!

Til å feste!

Norway's happy birthday song is better in so many ways. I'm sold!

This is the best sentence to end on. Thank you to all of the contributors for creating this course. This really is the longest and most well put together course on Duolingo, and I'm so happy (and sad) I've finally finished it! And thank you to all the mods, jokers, and all the fellow Norwegian lovers for keeping me entertained throughout this course!

Tusen takk!

Why is "deg" placed there? Why isn't it "ja, vil vi gratulere deg"?

It's a lyric from the Norwegian happy birthday song. This word order emphasizes deg by placing it at the front of the sentence. It's you we want to celebrate, not someone else.

Be careful of the word order. What you wrote is a question meaning "yes, do we want to congratulate you?" The correct one is "ja, vi vil gratulere deg"

Why is "yes we will congratulate you" wrong? Isn't both "will" and "want" as a tranlation for "vil" always correct?

Generally, yes, as long as the context allows for it. As it's a quote from our Happy Birthday song it's difficult for me as a Norwegian to interpret it that way, but I've added it nonetheless.

Nonetheless ;)

Incidentally, are most of these "I finished the course" posts for hitting level 25 or for completing the first run through the tree? I'm sort of guessing the latter, but I figure they were posting before the inception of crown levels. I am saving the celebration for the completion of level 5 throughout and that's going to be awhile. I just finished level 3 top to bottom and have lots left to learn and strengthen.

Takk!

These are for reaching the end of the tree and finishing it in that sense. For catching the Norwegian owl, if you will. I don't expect there are many who have taken the whole tree to crown level 5 yet.

Bare Hyggelig :)

For a long time I thought level 25 would equate to taking the whole tree to crown level 5. But instead I will be somewhere in the crown level 3-4 zone when 25 comes around. I like the fact that there will still be goals to work on for a long while, beyond just the daily XP reminder.

The XP levels have not been adjusted for crown levels in any way, nor are they adjusted for course length. They're just there, doing their own thing. Much of my XP in Spanish, French, and Portuguese comes from the old Immersion feature.

To give you fair warning, we will likely release a new version of the course before you reach level 5.

@Deliciae, that is all good with me. I will not be one to fuss when the course changes, I will just keep learning from it. The only time I will fade away in the future is if I should ever start to get every answer right. That is many months away or more.

That's a healthy attitude.

Nothing's quite like A/B testing a new tree version; half the user base is complaining they have the new tree, and the other half is complaining that they don't have it yet. :')

I've noticed. The two sort of "ghost" feelings I have sometimes gotten from these discussion pages are (1) a bit of sorrow that I missed the heyday three+ years ago when everyone charged into the brand new course with such excitement, and (2) the remaining visible echoes from all the clamor surrounding the introduction of crown levels. Just another place in life where a healthy attitude is flexible.
