I get 404s trying to access discussion threads that others can see
My problem is exactly what it says on the tin. I get a notification that someone replied to me in a thread, I go to see what they said, the comment thread starts loading (the header appears, etc)... And then I get a 404. I try the link without the comment ID, and same problem. I search for the thread title instead, get five results that all point to the same URL (what's up with that, by the way?), and get a 404 on each of them. What's happening here?
Here's the latest thread it's happened to me with: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/8019676
edit: I know what a 404 error is, I know that threads can be deleted, but even since I stopped being able to access this thread, and others, I have continued to receive notifications for them, meaning that others are still able to access them (unless there has been some sort of days-long lag in notifications for months now and I've only just noticed). It's also always for sentence discussion threads.
I cannot access that either. perhaps someone commented and the post was deleted before you could see the comment
That's why I left out the actual comment ID - the full URL is https://www.duolingo.com/comment/8019676$comment_id=23861356. duolingo.com/comment/NUMBER links to a discussion thread (unless there's another problem with the links I'm being fed and it's a miracle I can access discussions at all). Since it's a sentence discussion thread for the German course I wouldn't expect it to have been deleted; even if the sentence discussion goes really badly the usual thing is for it to be swept and locked, but left up.
The server cannot find the page you are trying to load, which usually means that the post has been deleted by a staff member or a moderator.
I know what a 404 error is and I know that the staff delete threads. As I said, what I'm wondering is why it's acting like the thread has been deleted to me, but others are still able to access and comment on it, and thus I'm still getting notifications for the "deleted" thread.
Perhaps it was deteted after someone posted to the thread and after you were sent the notifications.
Good thinking, but (as unlikely as it is that someone would delete a sentence discussion thread five minutes after someone posts a question in it), I continue receiving notifications about people replying to these threads after I start receiving 404s for them. There are some threads I haven't been able to access for months which I'm still receiving notifications for.
