Hi! I noticed that there is a High Valyrian course (beta, browser version only) and I'm wondering why there are no speaking and listening activities for it. Is it because it's beta? I really want to train my oral skills.

Last I checked, Swahili still didn't have audio, either.
I think they just wanted to get the HV course out, even if it wasn't "complete". It's always possible they'll add audio and/or additional sentences and skills in the future.

This is true. I believe it has been mentioned that the current beta tree was released simply to coincide with the start of the new season of the TV series. The next version should add more things to learn, though I can't recall if audio has been officially mentioned...

They have a pronunciation guide in one of the tips and notes. I think the first one. Anyway, I just said all the words how they were supposed to be said, and I got it down pretty quick.

that's great :) I'm sure i could study it somewhere else too. But don't you want a full course like you can get it for every other language on duolingo too? would be so sad, if they don't add it.

Any tips on how you got the q down? Mine is still pretty inconsistent.

There aren't an abundance of words with q. I can make the sound, but I'm a little shaky with pronouncing it in words. But I do have a tip. I see you are learning French. You pronounce the q just like r in French, but with a hard sound.

It just came out of beta without audio, Swahili has been promising audio for months but HV has not mentioned a word about it. I don't think they have any plans to, it's kind of disappointing.

that is so sad, in this case it really makes no sense to learn it at all. but thank you for your comment. i just realized Valyrian is also missing the memory/finding pairs exercises.

I was hoping they would come up with some modern language to make the course more use. The entire thing felt like an advertisement for Game of Thrones, which I guess it was but I would like to learn to speak about things besides the show and how to pronounce the language. If the goal is more to advertise than teach there really isn't much point in doing it.

D'ya think that they're going to take audio from Game of Thrones and implement it into the course? That would be cool...

The pronunciations in the show are often incorrect (especially the y's and the q's), so I sincerely hope they don't do that.

Well...what defines the language?
I'd argue that anything on the show is canon, no matter how much it varies from the "correct" pronunciation.

no i don't think so. way to advanced, and i'm not sure if it works with copyright. i just want sound so I hear what I have to pronounce :)

Fair enough. I suppose you could look up youtube videos...maybe?
