Would 'die Leute sehen uns an' work or does ansehen mean something else?


I'd say "ansehen" is a bit "less active", and "die Leute sehen uns an" is probably better translated with "The people look at us."

If you are watching someone (or beobachten), this means you later you know what he did. If you just look at them, you may not.
