"Ana nyumba"

Translation:She has a house

August 10, 2017

i wrote "he has a home". is there a distinction between a house and a home in swahili?

Some of the Swahili speakers round here may correct me, but the way I understand it is that "house" is nyumba, which is literally just the building. Adding -ni on the end makes it a place, and that place is nyumbani, home.

Or as some song goes
"a house is not a home
when there's no one there...."
