"The same again, please"
G'day! I've got a nice easy question.
So, I was just wondering, if you're at a cafe or a bar, finish your drinks, and want to order another round of the same drinks again, what would be the best way to say that in Greek?
In English you'd just say "the same again please", which I know could be literally rendered in Greek as "το ίδιο πάλι, παρακαλώ". But I was wondering whether there's a better way to formulate it, or if I'm missing a preposition or something, or if there's a different phrase which is more regularly used by Greek speakers?
I ask because it's what I was saying last time I was in Greece, and a few waiters seemed a bit puzzled by it (although I guess it could have just been my bad pronunciation and/or the effects of too many Fixes).
Thanks in advance for any help!
If it's a round of shots you can say "Φέρε μας άλλη μια γύρα=Bring us another round" which is slangy and very informal (but you are having shots, so who cares :P) or for drinks in general φέρε/φέρτε μας/μου μία από τα ίδια=bring us/me one (more) of the same which is less informal but still informal. At least that's what I say, I don't think there is a fixed phrase or something, yours (το ίδιο πάλι, παρακαλώ which is very polite) would do, too.
Ok, that's what I was waiting for. I was hesitant to reply earlier in case I came up with a dated expression. Thanks, troll.
Thought I'd also leave a bit of filler for the upcoming holiday for those who haven't spent time in Greece on Aug 15. In a word, everything shuts down. It's a huge name day ονομαστική εορτή for anyone whose name has anything to do with the Παναγία. Literally all-holy, from pan all- + agios holy
Maria, Mario, Panagiota, Panagiotis, Despina.... and more and all versions thereof.... Mary, Takis, Giota, Deppy,....
And since it falls on Tues this year I assure you most shops will be closed on Mon and those that are open will be short staffed. Be ready to wish everyone...yes everyone... ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΠΟΛΛΑ because surely they have someone in their family who has their name day.
ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΠΟΛΛΑ to all of you out there.
Indeed! I was in Lesbos on August 15 many, many years ago and didn't really quite understand what was going on ;-)
