The Face of The Voice

Hey y'alls--who else loves the voices of the speakers??? I just love my Danish "teacher" so much, the Esperanto dude, I love the French man and woman, and I could listen to the Spanish woman say "Patricia" all day long. Wish I had faces to connect with the voices I have come to love!! AND and big thanks to everyone who makes this possible <3

They're text-to-speech programs, so they don't have faces. :)

Not all the languages have TTS, but Spanish definitely uses TTS.

Nooooooo!!!!!!!! they sound so real!!!!!

The Esperanto voice is human.

Scroll past the initial comment at the following link and you can see his answers to a few questions with the Duolingo account fsoghomonian: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/9588832

As far as I know, the Danish, French, and Spanish voices are all Text To Speech.

I don't think Duolingo have an official page listing which courses are TTS and which are human voice. In general, when you get a listening exercise, if it can't be played at a slow speed, it is a human voice.

I think that these are the current human voice courses:

  • Esperanto
  • Ukrainian
  • Irish
  • Hebrew
  • Vietnamese
  • Hungarian

I have checked these against comments in the incubator: https://incubator.duolingo.com as well as I am able. Swahili has had sentences recorded with a human voice, but I am unsure if the audio has been released yet. Any of the non-natural languages such as High Valyrian and Klingon will almost certainly have human voice when audio is added.

The voices in Labs > Stories (for Spanish and Portuguese) are also human.
