For anyone whose ever tried to look up information about the Karelian language, you may have noticed that the internet is almost literally void of information about this language.

So I decide to travel high and low throughout the internet, to compile a database of Karelian-related links to help anyone trying to learn this relatively-obscure language.

( my floofball dressed in Karelian clothing )

Links that are completely safe to use :

  • Memrise ( course ) : A user-created Memrise course that teaches basic phrases, and a decent amount of vocabulary.

  • Memrise ( course ) : Another user-created Memrise course, this time, smaller, and only containing phrases.

  • A Book ( available on Amazon ) : Goes over 5 different Finnic languages ( Karelian included ). I managed to get this book cheaper in used condition, and I'd say it's probably the best Karelian grammar resource available for English speakers, although it is quite lacking when it comes to vocabulary.

  • Viestit Karjala : A Karelian news channel on youtube that uploads daily. Lots of listening material.

  • Mečänmuurninkiäntäjä : A youtuber that subbed some Russian cartoons in Karelian.

  • Wikipedia ( Karelian ) : The Karelian version of Wikipedia, lots of reading material.

  • Wikipedia ( article ) : The English article about Karelian on Wikipedia.

Now for the links that dive a little deep into the Internet. Links that I can't 100% confirm are safe, but which I use nonetheless. Perhaps view these on a device that isn't your personal Computer ( which is what I do ).

  • Dep Vladimir Narod : Contains a Karelian grammar guide and quite a bit of Vocabulary. It's all in Russian ( sorry non-Russian speakers ).

  • Onegaborg : A website available in English, Russian, and Swedish. Unfortunately not all to the same extent, as the Russian version of the website contains a lot more information than if you view the website in English or Swedish. Nonetheless, there's still information there that could be useful for non-Russian speakers.

  • Omamua : A Karelian news website, specifically written in the Livvi dialect.

  • Aiga : A website that I'm not too sure what actually is, as it's all in Russian ( so I can't understand much of it ), but multiple people have recommended it for learning Karelian.

Now for some songs in Karelian ( all on Youtube )

Hopefully this helps anybody interested in learning the Karelian language. Also, please share any Karelian-related links that you may have in the comments section.

Sorry, I don't have a Deviantart account ( or really any other account outside Doulingo ). I would like to practice my art bit more before I decide on creating an art account.

Thanks!, I'm planning on doing so in the near future. I'd first like to practice my body-proportions and backgrounds a bit more.

From the YouTube channel, I wonder if any Finnish or Estonian speakers can understand much of this video for example.
