I think yes. I think it gave the translation as "cut the potatoes" since you would probably hear speakers saying it to you this way as a request.

Yep, but listening to this sentence for the 1st time i wouldnt understand that. But, "what does this boy do in this restaurant?." "Ohh... corta as batatas!" Then, this sentence fits :)

But you could also answer that in English. "What does this boy do in this restaurant?" "Cuts the potatoes". But there is not really a "he" in this sentence. It could just as easily be a machine or a she.

I saw it as a command or request. YOU! Cut the potatoes! =)
