I have completed my FIFTH TREE!

I have completed my fifth tree (German) over the course of LESS than three days.

Here you can find a link that will lead you to my original 3-day challenge post.

I completed it 10 minutes before the deadline of 12:45 AM almost 8 hours ago (I haven't slept since, not joking)

Do you use any other language learning resources besides Duolingo? Or do you just like the Duolingo "game"?

Psst, Duolingo is not a game.

Also, I use Duolingo exclusively for all languages except French. French, I use just about anything.

It has a game-like interface =) And I've found it's not great as a primary language learning resource, though it is a cute little diversion that lets me have the illusion of productivity on my lazy days.

Das ist sehr ausgezeichnet, und das war ganz schnell. Wie viel Deutsch können Sie jetzt verstehen? ( genug für eine Unterhaltung? )

August 17, 2017

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/WaterPolyglot

I could understand a lot of that.

What does ausgezeichnet mean? I didn't see it in the course.

What does ganz mean?

What does genug mean?

I have a lot of other questions, but I'm afraid to overwhelm you.

Danke!

Wie viel Deutsch können Sie jetzt verstehen?

Ich konne verstehe sehr schlecht Deutsch.

ausgezeichnet = excellent

If LavethWolf will forgive me the nitpicking, the correct particle should have been "ganz", since "ausgezeichnet" implies a superlative and cannot be raised:

"Das ist ganz ausgezeichnet"

I don't mind the "nitpicking", it's actually really helpful. Thanks for correcting me.

Ahhhh. Are you a German native?

As it happens, I am :)

Since Stusstrupp already answered ausgezeichnet, I guess I'll answer the rest. Ganz means "quite" ( and I believe it could mean other things too ), and genug means "enough".

"Ganz" means quite?

August 18, 2017

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Hannibal-Barkas

sometimes it means "completely" , "whole", "entirely" or even "quite".

for example "ganz richtig - quite right" or "ganz gut - quite good/well"

btw: nettes Pseudonym, Stusstrupp. Auch, wenn du nicht wirklich Stuss schreibst ;-)

Hast du vielleicht ein Beispiel dafür?

August 18, 2017

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Stusstrupp

Hallo gSY55q97,

Gerne:

"Ganz gut." (D.h. nicht wirklich gut)

"Schau 'mal, ich habe unsere Katze rasiert" "Na, ganz toll!" (D.h. furchtbar)

Beantwortet das die Frage ganz?

Gut gemacht!!!! What is your level? Did you take a test

August 17, 2017

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/WaterPolyglot

No. I technically, took one placement test (that got me through 17 skills) then I tested out of 57 skills individually, then I took the German Tree Shortcut 6 (the last checkpoint in the tree) and then after that it was just testing out of everything individually until I finished the tree.

I'm Level 12 German, as of completing the tree (without strengthening anything)

I have had no prior knowledge of German before I did this challenge, except that I've gotten as far as somewhere before Nature 1.

I have not done any individual lessons in this whole tree, kinda like with all my other trees except for French.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch!!

Where is the fifth tree? I can only see four.

It could be a reverse tree. The platform doesn't show reverse trees if you aren't on the target language of the reverse tree. You need to go on WaterPolyglot's profile to see the reverse trees.

I have 2 English trees. One for English->French and one for English->Chinese (I'm native Chinese, so I figured, why not? Chinese for English is coming out soon anyways.)

How well do you know the material? Do you plan on strengthening all of your trees and moving on to other resources?

August 17, 2017

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/WaterPolyglot

I plan on strengthening all of my trees, and although I may move on to other resources (I've found a really good app called Drops, and another one, I posted about it before, with Espiraden, it's called Tandem Language Exchange) I will always stay on Duolingo. It's one of the only things that reminds me every day of my goal. Some other persons/apps/things that remind me:

in FEWER than three days.. If you can actually count something, it's fewer. LESS is a matter of degree, i.e., there is less rain this year because fewer raindrops are falling.
