Can't you just say "むらさき"?

Yeah, you can leave out いろ for most Japanese color words and it's equally correct. It's usually more common to leave it out most of the time.

むらさきいろ- purple color むらさき - purple

このぼうしはむらさきです。このぼうしはむらさきいろです。むらさきなぼうし。むらさきいろのぼうし。 You can use both

紫色が色です。

Yes. You absolutely can and should

yeh, but it says purple color

Why is "pink color" correct for ピンクいろ, but not "purple color" for むらさきいろ? It seems inconsistent.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Randy33189

いろ should not be used in either. Japanese people rarely say that, mostly under specific circumstances where they want to specify color.

How about "violet"? Why isn't it correct? Is it just not added to the course?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Diana104629

I answered "purple color" and got marked wrong...

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Ashflutter

I think it's talking about the color itself...if that makes sense?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Re-try

Violet is STILL marked as wrong, after all this time. I have reported this so many times, kind of annoying at this point. shrug

Duolingo really needs to fix this.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/angel_campoverde

Purple and violet are the same in Japanese, but they do not accept "violet". That has to be fixed.

That's a long word for a color.

Four kana for one kanji?? :o

What I find disturbing in this section is how Duolingo randomly chooses to teach some colors with kanji and some colors with hiragana/katakana.

I think of "morado" (spanish)

Is this author related, or is her name just a homonym? https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4739.Murasaki_Shikibu

"Purple" is capitalized, so it stands out a bit...

"Orange" including "iro" I could kind of understand, but pink, purple, and green? Why?
