Portuguese language! I'm a newbie :)
I have just started learning portuguese and I love it so much already! It sounds so soft and beautiful, makes me repeat the words over and over again. Is anyone here learning portuguese too?
Btw, I'm from Belarus, so my native language is Russian. I am fluent in English and not so fluent in Spanish. Will be very happy to know new people who love learning languages!

I learned Spanish first - then I switched to Portuguese and I picked it up really quickly. It's a fun language.
Hi Miriam. One of the wonderful things about Portugues is the fabulous music, and especially Brazilian Music. You can find it on Spotify. Some musicians I like for example are Elza Soares, Marcos Valle, Elis Regina, Cassiano and Fernanda Takai. Once you begin listening to one of them Spotify will recommend others. That list is just some examples to get you started. I've recently joined a new Brazilian choir with a bunch of Brazilians and a few Australians (I'm in Melbourne). To be able to sing in this delightful language is blissful. And I enjoy translating the lyrics with the help of Google Translate. Just type in 'letras' and the name of a song you like and you will find the lyrics in Portuguese of any song you like the sound of.
Hello Miriam, I am also learning Poretuguese. I am happy to meet you. I think we could write each other in Portuguese to improve our writng language skils if you would like. I have visited Brazil many time and I love the country and the people. You should visit there when the opportunity presents itself. Hugh
wish you good luck.
It is a must for Portuguese to install on the DuoLingo web (does not work with apps) the user script "Duo tree enhancer" from Camilo: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/19654789/Userscript-Tree-Enhancer
It plays Portuguese TTS audio from right-hand side translation answers (EN-PT) by reading the PT sentence. The DuoLingo Android app can NOT do this.
I am guilty in trying to learn Portuguese and my personal goal never has been a "30-90 days DuoLingo-only challenge".......but I have to admit it was hard for me to fight against a signup of the www.BliuBliu.com Portuguese challenge with those two hosts ;)
Maybe you can get some ideas from my thread https://www.duolingo.com/comment/20450828/What-to-change-optimize-in-my-Portuguese-learning-process-Shall-I-switch-to-Spanish where multiple other resources and threads are linked...if you would like to skim over some bits here and there...
Hi, Miriam! Great to see you've hopped on the Portuguese train! It is quite a lovely language, isn't it? It is like a slightly spicier Spanish. =)
Yeah, it's a better version of Spanish lol I hope our Spanish friends will not get offended :) What do all the signs above your text mean? I see the flags, so you've been learning all these languages?! and what do the numbers mean?
The flags represent the languages, and the numbers represent the level I am in those languages. I'm not actively working on all of them, hehe. <3
That's how many days I've done Duolingo in a row. With a few streak freezes thrown in there ;)
To understand the impressive ~20-60 languages flag lists from all the Polyglots on DuoLingo you could install on the web the user script "DuoLingo Flag Language" from this list (however, many scripts listed do NOT work with the new Duo 2017 (Scala code) portal): http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/Duolingo_Userscripts
It really helps me quickly understanding all those flags ;)
With it installed you do not have to go anymore to the user details (which were btw greatly improved on the new Duo web portal, as they show multiple target languages, not only for the currently selected single base language).
Direct link "flag language": https://github.com/vaughanchandler/duolingo
If you have installed Greasemonkey (Firefox) or Tampermonkey (Chrome) addons and restarted your web browser you can simply click the "Install userscript" (this gives the JS raw link) from the above github link (user repository).
I am Brazilian and love my language, but not just the Brazilian Portuguese varieties, I also like European Portuguese and Angolan Portuguese!
So, you are from Belarus? I am curious about if the Belarusian people speak more Russian or Belarusian... Which language is more spoken there?
Belarusian language is almost dead, you can meet belarusian speaking people very rarely, mostly in small villages. But recently the youth has decided to restore the language and more and more projects come in belarusian an the books are printed, the communities are held, so... who knows, maybe in 100 years we will speak belarusian again :)
Oh... well, it is cool that people there are trying to recover this language!
Hello, Miriam! My name is Jonathan and I am a Brazilian(we talk Portuguese). I talk to a lot of Brazilians on Whats App to improve our domain in English language. If you want I can send the link here, then, you will be able to join us.
Hi Jonathan, I have been trying to use Whatsapp to speak with my friends in Brazil. I know about the country and city codes but can you tell me what prefix numbers to use along with the cell number? Thanks in advance.
Hi, Brazilian here. Well, as far as I know, you need to use only the country code (+55) and the city code before a cell number, so I don't know what are these "prefix numbers"... Maybe this Wikipedia article will help? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_numbers_in_Brazil
Thank you so much. Is it the same for Whatsapp? Do you only use the country and city code before the cell number?
Yes! I've never talked to someone outside Brazil, but when I look for someone's number on Whatsapp, the app always shows me "+55 [the country code] 64 [my city code]" and then the cell number. I searched about it on Google and it seems this is really all you need.

I started learning Portuguese about a year ago. It has so far proved to be an interesting experience for me. It is more difficult to learn than Spanish or Italian. I have studied French and I would put Portuguese on par with that as regards level of difficulty. Good luck with your studies.
I saw you are learning Portuguese. I am a native speaker of that, and I am leaning English.
Eu estou procurando pessoas para colocar em prática nossos aprendizados aqui no Duolingo, via Skype.
Let's talk on the Skype and improve our languages!
This is my Skype account, add me if you are interested:

I'm a native Portuguese speaker. I'm learning (or trying to learn) all those languages over there, look!
I usually answer questions of the French -> Portuguese course, and I would love to answer you too.
If you or one of those who are reading this has some doubt, ask me!
I'm Brazilian and started listening to some Russian songs some months ago (I thought Russian was interesting in speech but didn't sound good in songs - I was wrong :D ), so far I only know the alphabet, some pronouns (мой, моя, твой and so on), a few words (like как, когда, бог, привет, велик) and some pronunciation/spelling rules. I want to get a bit better in English and then start learning it seriously.
I've just completed my GCSE in Spanish, so decided to pick up Portuguese as it is very similar. Looking to learn a bit of Italian as well :)
