I have completed my High Valyrian tree!
Today, on August 26, 2017, I have completed my High Valyrian tree! It was very interesting, and although it was very short, it taught a lot of vocabulary.
I must say, after registering my Duolingo account five days ago, I never thought I'd finish this quickly (or at all). It was a very nice tree, although it was short, and I had a fun time making my way through it.
I got kind of excited when I reached the second checkpoint, and I kind of raced to the end very quickly. My next step: make my entire tree a lovely shade of gold!
Here is the lovely Duo golden owl (I might just make him my profile picture):
Kirimvose to the High Valyrian team!
Congratulations and keep that tree gold, for the night is dark and full of terrors but the Lord of Light will guide you.
(sorry my inner Melisandre got the best of me)
Congratulations! What did you think of the course? I'd love to hear what you think because I still haven't got past the first checkpoint yet. Also, how much do you find you understand now about how High Valyrian works? Like I find it quite confusing and still getting used to the different word endings. How does it change later in the course? Does it change much? Sorry for all the questions.
The course was very well made! Although it was short it was very thorough and introduced a lot of vocabulary (although a lot of that vocabulary was very Game of Thrones themed). I still find some parts of High Valyrian confusing, like the past tense, future tense, and the Dative Case although I have the majority of the grammar down. As I progressed through the course, it seemed like the course contributors had finally gotten the hang of making a course. The sentences were funnier and more creative, the skills were more thorough, etc. Overall I think the course is great!
PS: It's okay! I like answering questions.
Thank you for answering them. Hope you don't mind me asking a few more haha. How did you go about learning the different class/verb endings? I'm guessing the wiki helps a lot (https://wiki.dothraki.org/High_Valyrian_Vocabulary for anyone interested), but how else did you go about learning it?
Also how long did it take you to finish? Apart from that, now that you spent time learning High Valyrian, do you think it helps with learning other languages?
Congratulations! Keep going! You'll be saving owls from the dangerous forest one language at a time! ;-)
I was interested in trying out High Valyrian too, but now that you showed how it is. I think I will give it a try, since it sounds exciting. And, congrats on your completion! Keep it up! ;)
Congratulations! Have you learnt enough to understand what is being said in the show without subtitles?
I don't really watch the show, but my inference is yes, I've learned enough, but I wouldn't be able to understand really what they're saying because the course doesn't have audio. I might be able to make out a few words.
I hope that Duolingo does make some audio for High Valyrian! I want to make sure I am pronouncing the words right. I wonder who gets to voice the different languages.....
congrats! i just found out about this course and got started right away- i really love the show. BUT, i was VERY disappointed with the course as there is no audio. super bummed. same reason i gave up on irish on DL- not enough audio. i am waiting until they get audio for this course. : (
congratulations! I have no idea how you did it because I am having a very hard time with it...there's a reason why I am still on basics 1!
