What is the funniest thing you have come across on Duolingo

I am just curious, what is the funniest thing you have come across on Duolingo? I have been learning Spanish, and I have come across a few funny terms such as "I am a spider", "I am a duck, I speak English", the Spiders eat birds", etc. (I know I know, I seem to have an animal theme going on here) Have a great day everyone!

"Yo soy un caballo, hablo inglés". ("I'm a horse, I speak English")

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

yes, that one too

All this in the norwegian course:

Du spiser min hunds mat (You are eating my dog's food)

Du drikker min katts melk (You are drinking my cat's milk) Someone really likes animal food.

Katten vet hva dere gjør (The cats knows what you are doing) This is a psycho cat.

Storebror ser deg (Big Brother is watching you). An orwellian phrase.

Det røde bryllupet (The red wedding). A sad one :(

The Red Wedding?

Hmmmmm..............

What could be so sad about a wedding?

I fell off my chair laughing

One of my favorites is in the Swedish course. "Det regnar män"...which translates to "it's raining men", a tribute to a campy disco anthem from the 70's.

ah.... I see it's still funny if you didn't know the backstory

Not sure about the funniest, because there have been quite a few, but recently struck "what does your horse think?" in Russian.

We have "Nein, ich bin keine Banane!" (No, I am not a banana!) in German. It's perfectly true, but still hilarious.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/HarleyQuinnLover

Maybe one day you'll come across a crazy old lady that speaks German and asks you if you are a banana! who knows! LOL!!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/sturlu

Yes, that's in the Dutch course as well: "Ik ben geen banaan!" :-)

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

XD XD Well, stranger things have happened. once, I was asked if I was an alien -and I think I look like a normal human thank you very much. A banana is funnier though

I've gotten "My sister is old and I am young" in the Spanish course. And of course I sent a screenshot to my sister

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/susanstory

I remember that sentence. I wrote to my friend in Mexico about it. This is what I wrote to him about it:

"Anyway, I am doing Spanish today on Duolingo. One sentence I have so far is "Mi hermana es vieja, pero yo soy joven. " The word "vieja" is like "vielle" in French. For "young" it is "jeune" in French so it is similar."

This is what he replied about it:

To say "Mi hermana es vieja" is rude, at least for me. There are other ways to say it tactfully like "Mi hermana está grande" or maybe "Mi hermana es mayor".

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/HarleyQuinnLover

I should do that to MY sister some time! LOL!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

same-not the screenshot, as I am the oldest, but still awesome!

Mi ne ŝatas grizan akvon (I don't like grey water)

-Esperanto Colors

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/CharmingTiger

I imagine that grey water is one of the less popular colors of water.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

Yuck.... actually, Duo may have gotten it right this time. Still, it is funny!

Goedendag sap. Good day juice.

Hallo schoenen. Hello shoes.

De vogels lezen de krant. The birds read the (news)paper.

Ik ben een banaan. I'm a banana.

De sinaasappel spreekt. The orange speaks.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

haaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaa and yikes, speaking food

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Sola6174

Got one that said "the cats do not drink apples" in the Spanish course...lol

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/-Sruly

Hebrew course: אני פטרייה - I'm a mushroom

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Ludwig719394

De katten drinken bier. The cats drink beer. Hallo, schoenen. Hello, shoes. Dutch

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/sturlu

A classic one from the French for German speakers course: "La serveuse est entièrement nue" - "The waitress is entirely naked."

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Xamaranth

Strange sentence!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/sturlu

Another talking fruit from the Dutch course: "Pardon, ik ben een appel." - "Excuse me, I am an apple."

Anything where it's something about me being an animal who speaks __

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

true, unless it is a parrot

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/HarleyQuinnLover

"Robert is a bear", that one was weird! My sister came across "Hello! I am a horse" which was pretty funny and yes, I am a spider is pretty funny too! there was a "I eat spiders" one which was creepy!!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

haha, my friend Robert would love that one...

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/HarleyQuinnLover

Next time you see him in public say that out loud and embarress him!!! LOL!!!!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

I did. He just looked at me strange. It's hard to embarrass him. I think he took it as a complement....

About that last one

WARNING: It's only Wikipedia but maybe don't click if you have arachnophobia.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Hubinou

In hungarian :

  • A kék nyuszi a fotelben ül és olvas
  • The blue bunny is sitting in the armchair, reading

A very educated bunny indeed. Must be a sentence from a tale for children.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

huh.... that would probably be very correct! :)

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

another one if anyone cares "Hello monkey, do you speak Spanish?"

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Hubinou

In hungarian :

The 24th kindergarten teacher is not walking on the sidewalk either, but flying above the city

Must be Mary Poppins !

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

hahahaha!! Just a spoonful of sugar is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Hubinou

Another one "Mary Poppins style" in hungarian

  • Az óvónő felül a lámpára és beszélget a telefonon
  • The kindergarten teacher sits up on the lamp and talks on the phone

Not a very comfortable position, isn'it ? Especially if the lamp is on

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TO9L0Y05

Yup XD hahahahaaaa
