What's the difference between "niets" and "niks"?
Apart from pronunciation, niks is considered informal.
Both niets and niks come from a root cognate with English not, naught, nowt and nought, they are all variations of 'no + wight', i.e. no thing. 'Niks' at least keeps the /k/, /g/ or /gh/ sound that was lost in 'niet'.
I understood niks was slang for niets. Thus niets in my answer was wrong.
