Promotion of Duolingo Events?

I've noticed that Duolingo has recently added Events. There are as yet none close to me in my preferred language as far as I can tell so I wonder how they are marketed. Will Duolingo somehow tell me when an Event appears close to me, or do I (if I am the host of an event) need to somehow reach all presumptive visitors myself?

Is there anyone here with experience of Duolingo events that can describe their experiences?

Hi there! Yep, we recently rolled out Duolingo Events as a Labs project (check out the post here: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/23831823).

While general users will not receive alerts when an event appears near them (for now), we are reaching out to small handfuls of highly active users (in each city an event is live) and inviting them to participate if they choose. As with all things in the Labs program, if this goes well, we will expand the feature's capabilities and reach.

For the time being, if you want to participate, you should check in on the event page often to see if an event is coming up near you (new cities and languages are added almost daily) or apply to host events in your region/language.

I'll leave it to others to describe their experiences so far, and you can also check out DuolingoEvents on Instagram for a very early look!
