In Tips and Notes, we see an example: "twentieth" - "al douăzecilea", with "i" before "lea". But here we have "Al nouăzecelea", with "e" instead of "i" before "lea". What is correct?

Al nouăzecilea is correct. Someone should report this sentence.

2019-05-20 I reported it. The English -> Romanian exercise is here: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/29615107 I hope they fix both.

Where does the 'the tallest' come from? I simply translated as 'the ninetieth is tallest' and that is graded as incorrect

You can't have "tallest" on its own. Superlatives are always preceded by "the".

What is wrong with 'The ninetieth is the tallest one.'?
