It was called the "Activity Stream". It wasn't the most "private" system, but you could communicate directly to other users. But, it was removed.

Yeah, I know. It's really annoying, you can't actually talk to someone. I mean you know people are on the other end of the line replying to your commits, but you can't ever get to know them.

That would be cool. I hardly ever used it when we had the activity stream, because I only followed one person, but I think I would use it a lot more often now. At least duo had a good reason for removing it.
