And don't forget to listen to Má Vlast by Smetana!

Of course! It's on Part 6 of the Series, but I personally like Part 2, cause it has my favorite composer of all time, Jan Dismas Zelenka.

Actually Czech classical music is one of the top reason for me to learn this beautiful language! I am a professional pianist and I work a lot with vocalists so I encounter all sorts of fascinating poetry in different (mostly European) languages. My love for classical music is one of the mayor drivers in my choice for languages on this site.

Really? Nice! That's also one of my reasons of why I started learning Czech!

Yep! Can't wait to be translating this ;-)

"Měsíčku na nebi hlubokém, světlo tvé daleko vidí, po světě bloudíš širokém, díváš se v příbytky lidí. Měsíčku, postůj chvíli, řekni mi, kde je můj milý? Řekni mu, stříbrný měsíčku, mé že jej objímá rámě, aby si alespoň chviličku, vzpomenul ve snění na mě. Zasvěť mu do daleka, řekni mu, kdo tu naň čeká! O mně-li duše lidská sní, ať se tou vzpomínkou vzbudí! Měsíčku, nezasni!"

This well be fine. But wait for Její pastorkyňa/Jenúfa :) That will be a different kind of work in that dialect.

That's Janáček, right? I did some of his Moravian folksongs. It indeed looked a bit different, than the Czech songs. Some songs had the Polish ł in it, I remember.

My favorite song to the moon from Dvořák's Rusalka! One time I heard it performed in Dvořák's own former house in Prague...

Once you have learnt some Czech, it becomes hard to accept performances by most singers who do not speak Czech, even if they practiced the pronunciation very hard.

Here is the one and only Lucia Popp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qxi-sYUT9s
