  5. Annual Rosary Rally-Pronuncia…

Annual Rosary Rally-Pronunciation Questions.

This Saturday, I have been chosen to lead a decade of the rosary during our annual rosary rally. Every decade is a different language, but the one I am leading is French. I have a couple questions about pronunciation, and when to say certain letters. I would appreciate if the answers were left to be given by a native speaker of French, or someone who rock solid knows they know the answer too. Please no guesses, I do not want to mess up.

**Je vous salue, Marie, pleine de grace. Le seigneur est avec vous. Vous etes benie entre toutes les femmes, et Jesus, le fruit de vos entrailles, est beni.**

Sainte Marie, Mere de dieu, Priez pour nous, pauvres pecheurs, maintenant et a l'heur de notre mort. Amen

Note: Please do not mind the missing accentuation.

I would like to know...

1: At Je vous salue Marie, pleine de grace, does the 'e' at the end of pleine take any notice? Is it pronounced at all?

2: Could someone show me how to pronounce "entrailles. I know the s from vos carries itself to (z)entrailles, though.

3: Is the r e s in pauvres, like ray, or reh?

4: How do you pronounce maintenant? And Is the 't' silent?

Thanks to everyone in advance.

I probably know that your thinking I should already know this, and probably pretty fluent, especially if I'm leading something so special. It's not really that I'm special, because yes I should already know this, it's more of that I was a last resort. So thanks for your time.

The best way to learn the pronunciation is to hear it said slowly and clearly by a native. Here you go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn2CBxAxViY

Thanks! I already watched that, but I guess I didn't pay close enough attention.

Yay! Another Catholic Duolinguist!

"Je vous salue, Marie pleine de grâce, le Seigneur est avec vous. Vous êtes bénie entre toutes les femmes. Et Jésus, le fruit de vos entrailles, est béni. Sainte Marie, Mère de Dieu, priez pour nous pauvres pécheurs, maintenant et à l'heure de notre mort. Amen" The "e" in pleine is not silent "pauvres" is as "pauvre" ; "s" is mute "maintenant" yes, the last "t" is also silent

Okay. But in Pauvres, does the e make a sound at all? I knew the s was silent (sorry for not clarifying that), but is the e mute too?

Also, in Maintenant, is the first 't', of which I was talking about (again, sorry), silent too?

No, the "e" in pauvre (as "povreu") is not mute, and the first "t" in "maintenant" is not mute.

Thanks ton! So pauvres is just how you spelt it? It sounds like Pauvreu?

Yes ! Right! It's the same sound as in the word "heureux"

Thanks a ton! You've been very helpful.
