Duo-paper? Need mod's approval.
As a lot of you may know, recently there was a "Duo_writer" (account name), 'wanting' to create a duo paper for the discussions, to add to its liveliness.
However, to my knowledge, it was not good she was intending. She got banned for forging fake imagery, and other scandalous stuff.
I thought the idea of a Duo-Paper was a really good idea. I thought the way she/he="They," ran it, wasn't the best way, but if done correct, good be a cool thing, and grow in popularity over time.
I thought about the idea of starting this over, and doing it right. The lot of you that see me around here in the discussions should know my intentions are true, which they shall be.
I got a lot of encouragement from fellow friends here on Duo and some strangers, who were very excited about it. However, I want to know of your guys opinions as well.
I would like if possible for at least 1 mod to give the approval for this, as I will not start this without the consideration and yes of a mod.
Hi, moderators do not approve posts. We just help folks follow the guidelines.
Moderators have been asked in the past if something would be okay, and then the person who asked the question would veer from the original proposal, or perhaps be over-zealous and inundate the forums, and there were hurt feelings all around.
So as long as your publication is on topic (covers language learning, resources, tips, updates about Duolingo, etc.) and you don't post 83 publications a day and spam the forums with them, it seems like it should be okay. I would strongly advise against interviewing "popular" Duolingoists because that always ends up with hurt feelings and a lot of criticism about whoever was picked and who was not, etc.
Popular ongoing user "publications" in the forums include the "Duo Goes" series, language "courses" for languages not yet in the incubator, and the weekly Incubator update.
Thanks for the reply Lrtward. Much appreciated. I have had many good chats with you. Although I know mods cannot officially approve posts, with big ideas like this, I find it good to get the thought from a mod. I will translate that thought if not a direct yes or no, into a yes or no, and go from there.

I was thinking every week or two, depending how big I plan to have the paper each time, thus needing to see how much news comes.

When I said in the original post, on how this wasn't constructed totally right the first time, interviewing was one of the little things I was referring too. I do not plan on interviewing.
I have had many good talks with you Lrtward, and you have put your opinion into many of my ideas, whether good or bad. My intentions are honest, and I really want to see something like this taken to the next level. I want it to be good; Stay calm. You can trust me.
Might I suggest once a fortnight rather than once or twice a week - at least until established as something people are interested in. If any posts appear overly regularly, they tend to be down-voted regardless of their quality. This is more a reflection on the limited nature of Duolingo's forum tools than the individual posts.
I didn't mean once or twice a week. I meant once a week, or ever two weeks. Sorry for the misstatement.
This would probably be better to do as a blog than in the forums tbh. Also, a blog can have multiple authors.
It's a good suggestion, but I don't think I would do it as a blog. Thanks though.
Not really. I used to learn, but not anymore. I don't need to code for this though.
I can only do sprites. Still a while to go till i learn coding. I agree with you though, that you should get approved from a moderator.
Awesome idea JackMartian! If I was a mod, I would give approval for this!
oh, i didn't know ya changed your user name Estoyunaperra, so I thought it was a different person who copied your own pic! lol
I like your new name though Estoyunaperra. It's a one of a kind. I really like it
Hey, I had a question, ( I know it's not related to the topic at all but I didn't want to make a stupid discussion about it.) Is there a way to find out who or what is giving you lingots? because I got 11 lingots today when I haven't even done a lesson.
Nope there is no way. Always just be grateful, and say a prayer for the anonymous donor, :).
I wish there was. Someone gave me 3000 lingots and I want to thank them :(
I changed it. I learned that perra has more than one meaning than Dog, and the other meaning isn't exactly the most pleasant word you could find, so I changed it. And if anyone was wondering how much I want the Korean course, you have the answer.
@Toggitang22, maybe. I'm really interested in the language, and in Korea in general. South Korea. And yeah, you can call me woof. After the course comes. I'll probably change it to KOREAN!! and then after that, It'll probably be Woof again.
Can I still call ya Woof? I like that name. It's fine if you don't want me to, then i won't
Awesome idea! Thumbs up for sure! :D I read below that the papers' subjects are confidential, but I thought it might be kind of cool to have native speakers translate some of the articles, so you can read the English and translation side-by-side. Just an idea! I hope this works out!
Fine suggestion! Where did you read that read that the papers subjects are confidential? You said 'down below'?
I read that about four comments down from right here. Sorry if I misunderstood! :) If they're not, I'd be interested in hearing about them! I'm very interested in this project. I think it would be a great way to motivate users.
Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, sorry. It is secret as for now. I thought you meant subjects as in people. Sorry!
Duo_Writer hired people to help him with the paper, like an editor, an information finder, and interviewer, etc. Assuming this was approved by a mod, would you do that or just do it by yourself?
For now, I was thinking by myself. If I could find a suitable partner, I'd consider help. I'm not trying to be selfish or rude, but if you knew me, I like things to be super close to perfect.
But, if this get's like super popular with like 1,000,000 views a day, then I think you'll need some help
Just because it gets more popular doesn't mean the paper has to change. So I would still be doing the same amount I would be doing at the beginning.
oh your right. didn't think about it. I'm confident you can do it yourself
