Writing umlauts on this forum - alt codes won't work.

Is there an easy way to write umlauts here? I'd usually use alt-codes but for the life of me I can't get them to work on this computer! :(

Just write an "e" after the vowel that should have the umlaut. z.B.: fuer=für. That alt code just worked... hmmm... maybe it's just your computer. But you can just do the e thing.

Yeah, I'm aware of the 'e' convention, it's just that I want to be clear with the spellings when giving tips to new learners.

I guess I didn't understand the question on the first read :). I don't know of anything on the forum section. Usually they show an umlaut option in the right corner of the text box on the learning part of the site. Sorry!

OK. Thanks very much for trying to help. Hopefully they'll add a feature at some point, I'll have to improvise until then!

if you're using a Mac ... [option]u then the vowel gives the umlaut.

Thanks but I'm using a rather ancient lap top PC.

Have figured it out, for any one else using an ACER laptop keyboard - you need to switch on numlock (fn key + F11) then use the numbers on the letters keypad (i.e o=6, k=2), rather than on the number row. It's a massive bind though so I'll probably stick with the extra 'e' instead!

Oh, I'm using an Acer as well! Yeah, the alt combination has never worked for me on the top row for any computer I've had. I've always used the numberpad.
