速い is related to speed, while 早い is related to time. Let's look at the difference between the following two sentences;

速く起きて仕事に行きます

早く起きて仕事に行きます

Both is about getting up and going to work, but the first sentence is about doing so quickly, while the latter is about doing so early.

Would a medical emergency be an appropriate occasion to use the imperative? For example:

"速く医者を呼べ!"

Is it because of the final point ? I thought DL didn't care about ponctuation.

Duolingo ignores punctuation like periods and commas, but it's possible that a more specialized symbol like ・ might get your answer marked wrong, the same as an incorrectly places apostrophe will get an English answer marked wrong.

Also, the correct kanji for "hayaku" is 早く.
