Will I be penalized because of Irma?

I live in Florida and am about to be hit with Hurricane Irma, will I be penalized if I am not able to get online to study? It would be nice if that could be waived because I've been working on a streak of over 40 days and have accumulated 195 points on your Irish course. I know that we are able to freeze a streak, but that's only for one day. We are expected to lose power tonight and they have no idea when they will be able to get it back on. Wills I lose my points? Or can you use some of the points I've earned to freeze the streak beyond that one day if necessary?

Yes, probably. If Irma proves sufficiently biblical then Duolingo might possibly waive streaks as a publicity stunt; I doubt it, however. If you still have mobile signal then you can still buy streak freezes via the app. I hope all goes well.

In case you don't get an answer to your concern, I suggest that ask someone you know and trust who is in another state/country to do your exercises for you or at least buy streak freezes everyday. It can potentially drain your lingots but it'll keep your streak intact until you can access your account again.

Streak freezes only work 24 hours after they are brought

That's not true. They work whenever the next time is that you don't do the exercises after you have bought it.

I always have a streak freeze in place just in case I need it although I usually don't need it. I never buy the charm (except for the achievement in the app once).
