Would you use Esperanto with your friends?

Let's say you want a fun activity you and your friends can do together. You have found a language that fits your goals - Esperanto (or something else, if you feel like it.) Would you encourage your friends to do so? Why would you? Tell me in the comments! But still, I want to do just that. Should I?

I was fortunate back in the day because my wife learned Esperanto with me. It's been great since we could practice with each other and also go to local, regional, and international events together. If you had a friend or two who was also interested, this would be a good thing. Not so long ago we organized an event in the region and a group of friends came out. Some time later, at a different event, the same guy came out with a different friend. They all spoke Esperanto. Come to think of it, we've had a few people come out to events with friends.

Before I heard about Esperanto, I tried to convince a friend to invent a language that was part German part Spanish and then learn it together. He wasn't at all interested. At times I think it would be easier to make friends with people who want to learn Esperanto than to make your friends want to learn Esperanto. It's worth a shot, of course. Maybe they'll learn it a little -- in at least one case that I mentioned above the friend ended up being perhaps MORE serious about Esperanto than the original guy. You never know.

I am starting with my family and making new friends inside Esperanto. If esperanto speakers are fun people and my existing friends like them i figure they will be their own advertisement for the language.

I would love to speak Esperanto or another language with my friends, but outside of English we do not know another common language. I think it would also be cool so that we could speak in class or around others without them hearing our conversation. Maybe I could convince my friend who takes Mandarin to learn Esperanto so we could do that.

Yeah, it wouldn't be good with complete strangers (except when you organized an event to meet others in Esperanto) But for friends who learn it with you... Then it is great you're learning Esperanto!

Ah, I totally wish my friends would learn it with me. I've told them about it and they thought it was cool but they said they'll "get around to it later". I've been learning it for over a month now and I feel more confident speaking it out loud. (I think my brother is annoyed with me speaking it to him) lol And I told him he could learn it too, but he's not interested. shrugs

So I've decided to join some Esperanto learning groups on social media and connect with people there. I'm also thinking about using HelloTalk. I would also like to find a local Esperanto group in my area.

i'd absolutely love to, though my friends aren't as interested in learning languages as I am. ;; even my sibling doesn't want to try it out. activities that take a long time don't really seem to appeal to my friends. but i think it would be a great thing to really bond over, plus it would be cool to have a ~secret language~ of sorts between friends, lol.

but i'll just stick to trying to find more friends that are learning or would like to learn esperanto!

It would be nice to have someone to learn with, though I have no idea who of my friends would be interested. Only feedback so far was when sometime ago a friend tried to intruduce me to Duolingo he was saying that he learns German there. I told him I don't want learn German much now. He told me there are more languages. I asked for Esperanto and he was like "Why the heck would you learn Esperanto, that's useless". then he checked and it was there. So at least that got me to Duolingo (and I even tried the German course anyway, even though I won't be doing it that often) :))

I am not fluent in Esperanto. But, I have created a simple language. It's not actually called a language. You will only need a day to learn the language. I use this language to write the secret letter. I call the language is Posanese

None of my friends have heard of it and none are interested in learning. My siblings have and they think it's a complete waste of time regardless of how far I've gotten with it.

They wasted time saying that, instead of learning like you. ;)
