Strengthen button listening exercises bug
I want to make the community aware that at the present moment there could be a bug with the strengthen button on the home page and listening exercises.
I have experienced this bug with the Ukrainian and Esperanto courses - both of which have recorded audio rather than TTS.
When doing a strengthen lesson from the home page, listening exercises are presented which do not play audio. This is not to say "no listening exercises play audio" - in fact some (the minority for me) do play audio. My presumption is that in fact exercises without audio are being selected as listening exercises - although of course the reason could be something completely different from what I imagine.
I do not know if this is true of all accounts (it could even be just mine, for all I know). I do not know if other languages are affected (but I presume any with recorded audio are affected - which would include not only Ukrainian and Esperanto but also Vietnamese, Hungarian and Irish).
(Also a very very few sentences to read and translate seem to show up with an audio playback button but no audio.)
Unrelated Czech audio problems
And in some languages the audio is not playing at all for some people (a different problem) which then leads into them being presented with listening exercises which there is no audio for. For example: Czech and Italian. nueby has indicated the lack of sound on Czech is specific to iOS and that staff are working on a solution.
Unrelated Firefox audio problems
And on an unrelated audio note, although the help pages indicate that clipping at the end of audio has been fixed, it nevertheless still occurs for some languages in some browsers - notably, Firefox.
As a workaround which allows users to keep the audio on, go into specific skills and strengthen them from there (rather than from the home page).
For those languages where audio is not playing at all, the audio may have to be turned off in settings until the problem is resolved.
On September 7th or 8th, Duolingo made a change that broke the filter that was in place that only allowed sentences with audio to be used for "Type what you hear" exercises. As Irish only has audio on less than a quarter of the exercises, most of the "Type what you hear" exercises are impossible to complete.
This is a copy of a trouble ticket that I submitted a few days ago, one of several bug reports submitted, but with no response, except for that automatic "Thanks for submitting a report" message.
Here are just a few examples of "Type what you hear" exercises that I've been given in the last few days, with links to the discussions for each sentences showing that there is no audio for these sentences.
