Can I not say 'the' animal?

Here we speak about some concrete animal, so we are emphasizing it with "to zvíře".

"The" is accepted.

Why is it ale velke sound like ale melke? Or i just heard it in a wrong way? Dekuji

The sound is not perfect, but acceptable. The slow audio is better.

Why is "je" necessary? What is wrong with, "To zvíře mladé, ale velké."?

Czech is not Russian, the copula is obligatory the same way as the English "is".

Why "this animal" is wrong?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/VladaFu

this is toto, tohleto

This animal is young, but big nebere spisovné čárky

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/VladaFu

Duolingo grading algorithms completely ignore čárky

Sorry but think thst "the" and "this" should be correct in this case.

Already answered in this discussion.

"this animal" is "toto zvíře", "tohle zvíře", etc.... but not "to zvíře".

Lol this is a slavic language bro

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AgnusOinas

I'm aware of that, it's my native language. And we don't use "toto/tohle" and "to" (as a noun modifier) interchangeably, even though other Slavic languages might.
